BRUNSWICK – The Pejepscot Genealogical Society will hold its April meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in the Morrell Meeting Room, Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
Michael Chaney, executive director of the Frances Perkins Center in Newcastle, will present “The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins.”
This program is free and open to the public; donations are accepted.
Perkins was secretary of labor under President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933-1945, and was the driving force behind the New Deal, most notably the policies that created Social Security, the 40-hour work week, overtime pay, unemployment insurance, workplace safety standards, and a ban on child labor. Chaney will provide an overview of Perkins’ life, from her family roots in Maine to her career in New York State and Washington.
