Moxie Festival celebrates 40th year this summer

Jun. 72022

LISBON FALLS — The 2022 Moxie Festival, which will be held July 8 to 10 downtown, will mark 40 years since the tradition began at the Kennebec Fruit Co. on Main Street.
In the summer of 1982, Lisbon’s annual Frontier Days celebrations had been winding down for several years. At the same time Frank Anicetti, who owned Kennebec Fruit Co. and had a reputation for keeping quantities of Moxie on hand, organized a book signing for Frank N. Potter’s new book, “The Moxie Mystique.” The 500 Moxie fans who appeared on Anicetti’s doorstep that day were the seed of something new – a three-day festival devoted completely to the celebration of a soda, a community and a state-wide spirit. Over the years, the festival has grown to attract tens of thousands of celebrants from across the country, and has expanded to three days of events that include live bands, vendors, fireworks, a parade, a 5K run, car show, fishing tournament and other entertainment. The event’s social media accounts draw thousands of likes, comments and shares on a weekly basis, as the iconic soft drink with the orange logo brings together its devotees.
The festival wasn’t held in 2020 and 2021, but the Moxie Festival Committee welcomes Moxie fans young and old to come to Lisbon this July to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of their distinctively different celebration.
