Durham announces meeting, rubbish protocols for May

DURHAM — The Durham Select Board and Planning Board will continue to hold virtual regular meetings in May.
The Select Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and on May 12 and May 26. The May 5 meeting will be held via Zoom, and meeting details will be released soon.
The Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. The public is invited to view the meetings live, or at Zoom.us, where there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
For information on how to attend the Zoom meetings, visit the town website. Zoom meetings can also be accessed by phone at 1-253-215-8782 or 1-301-715-8592.
The Select Board and Planning Board meetings will be re-broadcast on CATV Channel 3 at a later date. For more information email Town Administrator Ruth Glaeser at adminasst@durhamme.com.
The town has canceled the annual Memorial Day Parade this year. Plans for alternative celebrations at a later date may be discussed in the future. Information will be released as it develops.
Bulky waste day has also been postponed indefinitely. Durham residents can use the services at Maine Waste to Energy for a fee.
The Select Board also recently voted to allow town residents to place one trash bag at curbside without a tag through May 31, because of the difficulties the COVID-19 pandemic has created for some residents to pick up trash tags.
The action was taken to hold residents over until the emergency Executive Orders put in place by Gov. Janet Mills are lifted and municipal buildings are once again opened to the public.
Those who have more than one bag of trash should tag the additional bag, and all other requirements still apply. Those who put out more than one trash bag a week and need tags should call the Durham Town Office at 353-2561 to coordinate a way to get them.
The Select Board will revisit the issue if necessary when the suspension period expires.
Absentee voting is currently available for the municipal election, which has been postponed.
Those interested in receiving a ballot should contact the Durham Town Office during normal business hours, or email townclerk@durhamme.com.
Completed ballots should be mailed back to the Durham Town Office in the envelope provided at: 630 Hallowell Road, Durham ME 04222.
Because the Durham Town Office is closed, residents should not come to the building in person to request a ballot or to vote absentee. Updates and information about the election, as well as the new date, will be announced as soon as it is set.
