LISBON — Lisbon American Legion Coombs-Mountfort Post 158 is inviting those who are eligble to consider becoming members.
Anyone who’s served at least one day of federal active duty in the military between Dec. 7, 1941, and the present day and is serving or was honorably discharged is eligible to become a member of the American Legion.
“The Lisbon American Legion is a place away from home, that is a veterans sanctuary away, with like-minded people and experiences just like your own,” said B.J. Govang, historian for the Lisbon post.
The Coombs-Mountfort post building is smoke-free and was recently renovated. “In addition to connections to local, state and federal Veterans assistance, we provide a space for our members and guests to relax and make connections,” Post Commander Ron Saindon said on the post’s Facebook page. “Join us for Friday night suppers, occasional dances, holiday events” and more.
Members can also reserve the event room for things like birthday parties, celebrations of life, or other important events. Every Wednesday evening is pool night, with all skill levels welcome.
There are also sports events on the big-screen TV, darts and shuffleboard.
“We are a warm and welcoming environment for members and guests,” said Saindon.
Besides the fellowship and social activities at the post, those who join the Legion get a number of benefits, including a free subscription to the American Legion Magazine; benefits, career and education assistance; family and community support; member discounts; volunteer opportunities; and much more.
“The strength of the AL has played a critical role in lobbying for veterans legislation in DC, as well as local initiatives,” Saindon said. “We need the help and support of all veterans to continue our important mission in support of our veterans and troops!” There are also opportunities for those who aren’t veterans, but care about veterans and their causes, to join with the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.
