Durham polling location has changed

DURHAM — The town’s polling location has changed from the Durham Community School to the AMVETS Post 13, 1049 Royalsborough Road. The new polling location will take effect with the next election, set for Tuesday, March 3. Polling hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The location change is the result of a request from Regional School Unit 5 to the town to hold its smaller turnout elections in a location other than the Durham Community School in order to protect students. During elections, the side door to the school must remain open all day, which means the school is not secure. Large turnout elections will still be held at the DCS, but students will not be in school on those days.
Durham has limited facilities to hold elections so the town studied areas, locations, parking, accessibility, lighting, and multiple other factors. The Town filed a report of these findings with the secretary of state and the new location was approved.
