BRUNSWICK — First Light Camera Club will reconvene for the 2019-20 season and welcomes experienced and beginning photographers to join the group.
The Club meets most Thursday evenings, from September through May, at the Brunswick Naval Museum & Memorial Gardens, 179 Admiral Fitch Avenue, Brunswick Landing. The membership fee covers all events for the year, and the club welcomes those who are curious about membership to attend two meetings free of charge (when there is no guest speaker). Hands-on workshops, field trips, guest speakers and critique nights are all planned for the new season. Check the group’s website at www.firstlightcc.com to see a schedule of events.
September events include: “Best Shot” slideshow (Sept. 5); “Image Processing” with Mike Leonard (Sept. 12); sunset photo shoot at Lookout Point in Harpswell (Sept. 19) and a discussion about “Drone Photography” with Jeff Smat (Sept. 26).
For its welcome-back meeting on Sept. 5, members have were asked to photograph one theme all summer and to present their “best shot” at the meeting in a slideshow. This summer’s theme was ICM, Intentional Camera Movement. A slow shutter speed is combined with a narrow aperture and an intentional jiggling of the camera to add creative blur to a photo. The camera may be moved up and down, from side to side, swirled in a circular motion or in any other way. The effect appears to blend colors, add movement, emphasize subjects or create an ethereal mood, and it’s not as easy as it sounds to create a good photo.
Come see what people have been experimenting with all summer long. Several members also chose a second theme to photograph, and these will add an element of surprise to the meeting. Current FLCC members may still get their Best Shot photo in to images@firstlightcc.com by Tuesday, Sept. 3 no later than 6 p.m. (maximum: 1920 pixels wide, 1080 tall).
