Litchfield fourth-graders create art from Maine history

LITCHFIELD — Fourth-grade students at Carrie Ricker Elementary School spent May studying all aspects of the state of Maine.
Their studies included history of Maine, such as glaciers, early settlers, wars, Abenaki and other native tribes, geography, including all of the counties, land and water forms, landmarks, parks, forts, lighthouses, boundaries, industries of Maine, and state symbols, among other interesting facts.
The students created a float to demonstrate their knowledge in a culminating project. The floats displayed student’s expertise in their chosen Maine topic.
Judges were Christine Lajoie-Cameron, retired principal of Carrie Ricker Elementary School; Keli Terry, Carrie Ricker administrative assistant; and Joe Schmidt, Maine Department of Education Social Studies Content Specialist.
