1901 Lisbon fire is historical society May 8 topic

LISBON FALLS — Fire ripped through the Lisbon Falls business district on April 6, 1901, leaving it destroyed.
Lin Wright, author of “A Few Bad Days at Lisbon Falls: The Fire of April 6-9, 1901,” will tell the story of the fire and of the flooding that occurred a couple of days after it at the 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, meeting of the Lisbon Historical Society.

In addition to discussing facts of the two events, she will focus on both presenting a picture of the business district of Lisbon Falls just before the fire and of the people directly impacted by it — the owners of the buildings and businesses involved as well as the larger community.
Wright is a genealogist and historian serving on the board of directors of the Androscoggin Historical Society. She also recently spearheaded the organization of a local genealogical group, the Greater Androscoggin Genealogical Interest Group, which meets on the first Saturday of every month in Auburn. She is looking forward to serving as a volunteer docent at the Knight House in Auburn this summer.
Wright is also a member of the Mary Dillingham-Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Maine Mayflower Society, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists.
The program is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Parking and entrance are at the rear of the MTM building, 18 School St.
