DNA testing for genealogy is Lisbon Historical Society topic Sept. 12

LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society on Wednesday, Sept. 12, will present a talk by member Kathy Clavette, who has extensive training and experience in DNA testing as it relates to genealogy.

Clavette’s topic is “Exploring DNA testing – is it for me?” For those interested in genealogy, DNA testing is a relatively new tool for expanding family and personal research, taking researchers beyond printed documents about their ancestry.
“Researching roots with DNA can be a journey discovering genetic markers – creating new family connections,” Clavette said. She said the talk will include a basic introduction to the types of testing available and the companies that offer services to explore genetic genealogy.
The program begins at 7 p.m. at the MTM Center at 18 School St.,and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. The entrance to the society’s rooms is at the rear of the building, and parking is available behind the building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
