Carrie Ricker fourth-graders take on Maine as final project

LITCHFIELD — Fourth-grade students at Carrie Ricker Elementary School spent the last month studying all aspects of the state of Maine.
Topics included the history of Maine ‘s glaciers, early settlers, wars, date of statehood, native tribes such as the Abenaki, geography, (including counties, land and water forms) landmarks, parks, forts, lighthouses, boundaries, industries of Maine and state symbols.

The students created a float to demonstrate their knowledge in a final project. The floats displayed student’s expertise in their chosen Maine topic.
Judges for the event included State Rep. Kent Ackley, I-Monmouth; Regional School Unit 4 board Chairman Josh Bisson, and Carrie Ricker secretary Keli Terry.
The top three winners from each of the six fourth-grade classrooms, as well as the student’s choice winner, were
Peyton Hafner, Adryanna Smith, Lexa Valentin, Naomi Gowell, Carissa Goulet, Marlee Spencer, Haylie Ross, Brody Beganny, Emma Dubois, Jordan Labbe, Olivia Willson, Sunny Sloan, Ella Martin, Jeffrey Mason, PJ Smith holding Mason Beach’s float, Kaiden Levesque, Aileah Cote and Michael Littlefield.
