SABATTUS — Henry J. Conway American Legion Post 135 recnetly held the installation of its 2018-19 officers.
The installation began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the recognition of the POW-MIA chair displayed at the front of the meeting room.
The empty chair honors those who are not present by reason of being missing since their time in war.
The first event of the day was the installation of the Legion Auxiliary officers, who were installed by Joan Caron.
Each officer was presented with a pin and sash that signifies the office of their appointment. Installed were President Denise Michaud, First Vice President Jennifer Caron and Second Vice President Cheryl Shearer, Secretary/Treasurer Theresa Bradford, Chaplain Debra Devoe and Sergeant At Arms Joan Fournier.
Former post commander and past department historian Ron Caron lead installation of Legion officers. He was assisted by Kirk Thurston, Rumford Post 24, who acted as installation sergeant-at arms, and David Devoe, post chaplain.
The installing officer gave the job description for each position, and explained the importance of each of their contributions will make to the success of the post. Each new officer was brought forward by Caron and congratulated them on the appointment with a salute and firm handshake.
Installed were:
Post Commander Joseph Michaud, 1st Vice Commander Don Caron, 2nd Vice Commander Joseph Tetreault, Adjutant James Rancourt, Finance Officer Anthony Culpovitch, Chaplain David Devoe, Sergeant-at-Arms Harvey Mose, Post Historian Gordon Smith, Post Service Officer Amedeo Lauria and Americanism Officer Dominic Santomango.
At the conclusion of the installation, Michaud was reminded by the installing officer that he has the duty of seeing that no one is turned away and is guided by the decisions of members. Caron then presented him with the gavel of his office.
During his speech, Michaud talked about the accomplishments of the post and the way ahead for the next year. He envisions a wider array of post programs, increased membership and to continue to make the post a great place from which to serve local veterans and the community.

There are many activities hosted by the post to engage veterans in the local and surrounding communities and prospective members are always welcome and encouraged to visit, said Lauria.
