Durham historic homes event rescheduled to June

DURHAM — The Durham Historic District Commission will unveil the results of its two-year historic homes survey June 10.
The event was originally scheduled for May 20.

The commission will show images of some of the historic properties surveyed and host two guest speakers to put the work into context at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at Durham Community School, 654 Hallowell Road.
Durham Historical Society treasurer Tia Wilson will talk about the history of Durham; former Durham Codes Enforcement Officer Paul Baines will talk about different styles of architecture seen in the town’s historic buildings.
Since 2016, a team of about a dozen volunteers, led by the historic district commission, surveyed more than 100 homes built in 1900 or earlier, taking photographs to document the architecture and recording details about the homes to keep in a database for future reference.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations — which will contribute to historic preservation and education in the community — will be accepted.
