BOWDOIN — The town is celebrating its 230th anniversary of incorporation with a Community Day and 5k run-walk.
The event, which will feature activities for all ages, food and live music, will happen on May 19 at Bowdoin Central School, 1460 Main St.
Historically in Bowdoin, the community came together to celebrate Bowdoin Harvest Days, which included a parade, craft fair, BBQ and fair-like events, including a talent show. The tradition stopped around 10 years ago. Organizers of Community Day hope to rejuvenate that tradition.
The day starts with a 5K run/walk to benefit the Bowdoin Central School Parent-Teacher-Community Club. Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. Registration is $5 for ages 13 and under and $10 for ages 14 and up.
After the 5K, at 10 a.m. there will be an easy and free fun run for kids. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the free Bowdoin Community Day celebration will be open.
A wide variety of indoor and outdoor booths will provide displays and activities focused on local history, culture and nature.
There will also be live music, lunch for sale by Bowdoin Central School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and chances to see a firetruck, farming and logging equipment and antique cars. A town bus tour with a guide will also be offered.
