LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society will host founder Faye Brown and early supporter Noyes Lawrence of the Green Thumb Gang at its next meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in the MTM Center, 18 School St.
The “gang” was created in 1997 to beautify the town in preparation for its 200th anniversary in 1999.
The call went out for volunteers to work on “adopt a spot” gardens and to be “growers, sowers, hoers and mowers.” The response was good, and the Green Thumb Gang was established to harness and direct the energy of the many volunteers eager to get started
Several years later, when some early student members of the group entered their new Community Elementary School, they planted a memorial tree on the grounds. The gang and its volunteers, like these students, continued to beautify the town for many more years.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; parking is at the rear of the MTM building, as is the entrance to the society rooms. Refreshments will be served following the program. For more information, call 207-353-8510, or inquire at LisbonHistSoc@gmail.com.
