Durham hires new fire chief

DURHAM — The town has hired Joseph Moore as its new fire chief; his official start date will be March 1.
Moore started his career as a volunteer EMT in his hometown of Union. He earned a diploma in paramedicine from Kennebec Valley Technical Center, and an associate degree in advanced emergency care from Kennebec Valley Community College.

Moore continued his education through Excelsior College with a focus in nursing and has earned numerous specialty certifications and qualifications in instruction, command and Emergency Management in the EMS and Fire Professions.
Moore has spent 22 years enjoying his career in fire and emergency services in Maine, serving the Rockland Fire/EMS as a Firefighter, EMT and Paramedic.
Most recently he was employed as a flight medic with Lifeflight of Maine in Bangor. Moore’s interest in and dedication to caring for others makes him an excellent addition to the Durham Fire and Rescue Team, town officials said in a news release.
He and his wife of 17 years, Cara, have three sons.
