BRUNSWICK — The Pejepscot Genealogical Society will hold its next monthly meeting at the Curtis Memorial Library, in the Morrell meeting room, 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.
A film — “The Maine Frontier, Through the Lens of Isaac Walton Simpson” by filmmaker and composer Sumner McKane — will be screened.
For those whose ancestors were inhabitants of the Maine frontier, the one-hour film will resonate with recollections of stories told and memories shared, the society said. It combines rarely seen turn-of-the century photography by Isaac Simpson with both archived and current films and oral histories, “The Maine Frontier” is an illustration of family, work, community and culture in Northern Maine.
Isaac and Effie had 13 children; life was hard, and Isaac held multiple occupations. Effie had not only the children to care for, but also knitted and sewed well into the night on orders from logging camps her husband visited.
The film is a fascinating and well-documented visit to the north woods. There will be a brief social period with refreshments before and after the speaker. A business meeting will follow.
