LISBON — Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house…
Oops that’s the wrong story. So with your permission I’ll start again. The Lisbon American Legion Post 158 had been preparing for this party for about a month. What party? you ask.
Well, the Children’s Christmas Party, of course, complete with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Well as usual, as post historian, I got there early to make sure I got the whole story.
And sure enough there was about 20 children and their parents (grandparents) already there. We had expected about 80 to 85 children and a house full of adults, and we were ready.
Good job legionaries and auxiliary for the planning of this gala event.
A special thanks to Michelle Foss of the Lisbon American Legion Post 158 for buying, wrapping and tagging all the presents for Santa. She also provided some entertainment in the form of Mary Call practicing sitting on Santa’s lap. And speaking of Santa I thought I could hear him coming (this was confirmed by the children screaming and yelling as they ran out to meet him).
That’s when I heard the firetruck horn (it was loud) and then I saw it coming around corner (my heart was beating super fast just thinking about Santa). Just then I caught a glimpse of someone else in the firetruck. It was Mrs. Claus. (Glenn Simard and Dotty Levesque.)
It was a lot harder to get the children to quiet down once Santa was within their reach. But as soon as Santa stood up and got ready to call a name, there was dead silence.
I actually missed the first two or three children (I was gabbing with friends. It was a party!) but then Orion Murray’s name was called, and he immediately got my attention. His gift was an Exploration Kit with a shark (mouth moves) and a boat (lights up) and many other little things. Really a good toy (thanks again Michelle). In fact the children all got good toys and everyone had a good time.
