BRUNSWICK — The Pejepscot Genealogical Society will hold its next monthly meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, in the Morrell Meeting Room of the Curtis Memorial Library.
Guest speaker will be Brian Bouchard, vice president of the Maine Genealogical Society, who will speak on Searching for Alexander Theriault. This program is a case study in persistence, perseverance and some good old-fashioned luck in solving the Bouchard family’s brick wall, the society said in a news release.
For more than a decade, Bouchard struggled to identify the parents and family of his great-great-grandfather. The search started with a story handed down to him from his uncle. For several years, Bouchard followed clues before finally identifying Theriault’s family and the incredible story he left behind.
During this presentation, Bouchard will explore what caused this brick wall and how a combination of on-line and on-the-road research, coupled with social media and good fortune, helped him find out who Alexander Theriault’s parents were.
Bouchard has been researching his family history for more than 20 years. He was an early contributor to the USGenWeb project and Webmaster for the Maine Gravestone Photo Project. For the last several years he has volunteered to clean and maintain local cemeteries, served as president of PGS, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Maine Genealogical Society in various capacities. Besides serving as MGS vice president, he is also the MGS webmaster.
There will be a brief social period with refreshments before and after the speaker. A business meeting will follow.
