Lisbon Winter Fest set for Jan. 20

Nov. 212017

LISBON — Lisbon Parks & Recreation Winter Fest 2018 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 20, at Beaver Park, 37 Cotton Road. Admission is free.

“The goal of this event is to get families outside to experience fun activities together,” said Mark Stevens, Lisbon Parks and Recreation director. “We have lots to see, lots to do and lots to eat.”

Among other things, the event will feature Riverside Wood Carving displays and an antique snowmobile display in addition to the Sub Zero Ice Carving demonstration of ice-block carving.

The Lisbon Fire Department will enact a cold water rescue drill on the first pond, and Lisbon’s Boy Scout troop will set up warming campfires for chilled participants.

“We are so proud to have L.L. Bean back again,” noted Cherie Garnett, event coordinator. “They have told us they love this event, and folks have enjoyed snowshoeing around the field.” Use of snow shoes is free of charge.
Ultimate Dog Sledding will have two sleds running during the entire festival. Rides are $10 per person.

New this year, Ben Nugent, wildlife biologist, will conduct two snowshoe tours in the park — at 10:30 a.m. and noon.

McDonalds of Lisbon will be back, cooking up burgers and doling out coffee and hot chocolate for free. The Parks & Recreation seniors coordinator, Aline Strout, will have her group of volunteers in the Beaver Park Lodge dispensing free servings of chowders and chili.

A shuttle van will be available, and greeters will be on hand to let participants know where activities are happening within the park. For more information call 207-353-2289.
