BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society’s annual old-fashioned Christmas open house will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the historic Dr. Moses Mason House (corner of Broad and Mason streets).
Decorated in traditional 19th- century style and lit by candles, the first-floor period rooms in Bethel Hill’s oldest surviving home will be open to the public. Visitors will be able to step back in time as they enjoy old-style refreshments in the formal dining room, and harp music performed in the parlor by Conni St. Pierre.
The event is free, but donations will be welcome. Once each year, the society asks members and friends to put a value on its work by donating to the annual fund. These gifts help staff and volunteers maintain daily operations while providing high-quality educational programs, exhibitions, and research activities for people of all ages.
Founded in 1966, the society collects, preserves, displays and interprets historically significant artifacts and documents relating to western Maine and the White Mountain region of Maine and New Hampshire for the benefit of residents, visitors, students, scholars and its members.
Through exhibits, programs, events and publications, the society strives to make the region’s history meaningful, accessible and enjoyable. Donations in any amount may be mailed to P.O. Box 12, Bethel, ME 04217 or made online by visiting the society’s website at www.bethelhistorical.org.
