BETHEL – Rotary Club members have had a busy beginning to the spring season.
In late March, members were treated to a presentation on the Northstar Program, a joint
student-centered initiative of Telstar High/Middle Schools and the University of Maine 4H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond. Coordinators of the program, Lyndsey Smith and Justin Bondeson, updated members on the program’s activities and goals, and accepted a $15,000 check from the club to help cover the costs of one of the cohorts for the upcoming year.
At an April meeting, Ellie Andrews presented the Paul Harris Fellow Award, her fourth in her 17 years as a club member. The Harris recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation. The foundation helps advance world understanding, goodwill and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty through such projects as polio immunization, fighting water-borne illnesses and supporting anti-bullying efforts.
New member Tammy Vermette also gave her classification talk, describing her life and career for fellow members in order for them to get to know her better.
