BRUNSWICK – The Pejepscot Genealogical Society will hold its February meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, in the Morrell Meeting Room of the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
Guest will be former Maine State Archivist Dave Cheever, who will present “Ready Or Not,” a recount of the onset of the American Civil War from the perspective of the state of Maine. Barely 40 years old at the outbreak of the war, Maine was not prepared to participate. The war had an impact upon every facet of Maine life, and Maine had an outsized impact on the war. Cheever will discuss the people, events, and an accounting of Maine’s role.
Cheever was Maine state archivist from 2007 to 2019, followed by two terms as vice chair of the Maine Bicentennial Commission. During the American Civil War sesquicentennial in 2011, the Maine State Archives produced more than 270 of Maine-based, primary source anecdotes and educational lessons about the events and people of the Civil War.
