Lisbon’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors 5K means folks can stay warm

LISBON FALLS — Lisbon United Methodist Church held its 5th Neighbors Helping Neighbors 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 11, and recently announced that it raised $2,428 for Tedford Housing’s Warm Thy Neighbor heating assistance program.
The race had 24 participants (including two dogs) who, after a year of virtual races or none at all, were excited that they could physically participate in an event that supports important community programs that help their neighbors.

The donation check was presented to Tedford Housing Executive Director Rota Knott in December, after all the donations from the race were complied. Knott said that the generosity of participants and donors means the Brunswick nonprofit can supply another 700 gallons of heating fuel to qualifying families in the region.
The NHN 5K planning team said the race couldn’t have happened without volunteers Ginny, Dawn, Deano, Dean and Carolyn, who helped with the set-up and provided direction for the runners and walkers along the route; Randy, for his protection of the participants along the course and finish line team Lisa Brown, Lynn Brooks and Dave McCusker.
“We’re especially thankful for the runners and walkers who signed up and made it an event,” organizers added.
Awards were given to the top finishers for Men, Women, Students and Walkers categories. Steven Dubois, the top male runner, finished in 21:36; Melanie Davis, the top female runner, finished in 24:14; top student runner was Elsie Winokurzew, who finished in 25:30; top walker was a tie between Joyce Neely and Teresa Anthony. The 2022 run will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10.
