LISBON — On June 13, members of Cub Scout Pack 109 and Scouts BSA Troop 2019 went to Camp Hinds, in Raymond to sharpen their skills at the shooting range.
Jake Baird of Pack 109’s Webelos den and Leslie Poulin of the Wolf den fired BB guns at stationary targets. They learned range safety fundamentals like “keeping your muzzle pointed down range” and wore the proper safety equipment required for firing weapons at ranges.
More than 40 Scouts from Maine showed up, driving all the way from Saco, Gardiner, Lisbon, Auburn and even farther. The event was a blast.
Additionally, Jake and his Webelos Den Leader, Gene Baird, presented Camp Hinds’ Ranger Scott Martin with three rustic coat/hat racks. The racks were made out of pallets, requiring Scouts to cut, sand and measure the boards before binding them to one another and painting them.
The racks were made by Johnny Breton and Jake during the fall while they completed their Build It achievement. Each rack was painted differently: one was merely varnished; another was painted the blue and gold Cub Scout colors; and the last was painted red and green for Scouts USA. Each rack, however, was marked “CP HINDS” and “100 years” because the Pine Tree Council was founded in 1919.
