DURHAM — The Durham Select Board recently voted to allow town residents to place one trash bag at curbside without a tag through May 1, because of the difficulties the COVID-19 pandemic has created for some residents to pick up trash tags.
The action was taken to hold residents over until the emergency Executive Orders put in place by Gov. Janet Mills is lifted and municipal buildings are once again open to the public.
Those who have more than one bag of trash should tag the additional bag, and all other requirements still apply. Those who put out more than one trash bag a week and need tags should call the Durham Town Office at 207-353-2561 to coordinate a way to get them.
The Select Board will revisit the issue if necessary when the suspension period expires.
The town’s annual roadside cleanup kicked off on Monday, April 27, and will run through Wednesday, May 6.
Residents interested in participating may pick up clear trash bags outside the Durham Town Office front door from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during that period. Residents are asked to observe social distancing if others are present when picking up bags.
Those who are unable to pick up bags during the designated time slots should call the Town Office to make other arrangements.
The clear trash bags are for roadside trash only. When a bag is full, leave it on the side of the road and Pine Tree Waste will pick it up during their regular rubbish collection.
