FREEPORT – Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is offering a variety of outdoors programs through the month of February.
No reservations are needed, and unless otherwise noted, nature programs are free with park admission which is $1 for ages 5-11; $4 for Maine residents ages 12-64; $6 for nonresidents ages 12-64; $2 for nonresidents 65 and older. Persons under 5 and Maine residents 65 and older are admitted for free.
All programs begin at 2 p.m. Nature programs start at the benches by the end of the second parking lot unless otherwise noted and may include walks, talks, and activities in a beautiful natural setting. Programs last about one hour unless otherwise noted, weather permitting.
They include:
Feb. 2 and 23, Hike with the Ranger – Enjoy the best that the park has to offer in this season on this hike with a knowledgeable guide.
Feb. 8 and 22, Winter Hiking Preparedness – Learn how to stay safe and warm when hiking in the winter.
Feb. 9, Winter Birds – Learn about the needs and adaptations of the park’s birds in winter.
Feb. 15 and 29, Erosion and Trail Design – Take a walk and find out how our trails prevent erosion.
Feb. 16, Winter in the Woods – Join us for a guided walk to enjoy and learn how plants and animals survive the cold winter months.
Feb. 17, Animal Tracking on Snowshoes – Experience the joys of snowshoeing as we track animals through the park. Arrive 15 minutes early for fittings.
