SABATTUS — The Sabattus American Legion Harry J. Conway Post 135 hosted an event Sept. 14 honoring members of the Korean War era. The event began with a brunch provided by the members of the legion and auxiliary.
Following the meal, Post Commander Joseph Michaud opened the ceremony, followed by the benediction given by Pastor Russell Steward of the Sabattus Community Baptist Church.
Event organizer and Post Adjutant James Rancourt then introduced Melissa Weston from the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, who presented each veteran a personalized certificate of appreciation from The State of Maine and signed by Gov. Janet Mills, along with a Korean War commemorative coin. The American Legion Post also gave each veteran a book of the history of the Korean War.
Among those honored were Gordon Smith, Richard Behr, Joseph Breton, Robert Tanguay, Rodney Woodrum, Rosaire Decorme and Edward Taylor. Unable to attend were honorees Philip Vatcher, Theodore Terenzoni, Donald St. Pierre, Grover Ouellette, Maurice Morin, William Henshaw, Bert Cote, Joseph Bourgoin and Anthony Albert.
