LISBON — The 3rd annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors 5K Run/Walk raised $2,153 for the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry and Tedford Shelter’s Warm Thy Neighbor heating assistance program, organizers announced.
The 5k (3.1 mile) run/walk was organized by the Lisbon United Methodist Church.
The race was held on Saturday, Sept. 15, and there were 32 participants who traversed the course through a quiet neighborhood. New this year, Ashley Wood, owner of Essentially Balanced Massage, offered free massages before and after the race and professional photographe, David Colby Young, of Maine Running Photos, took photos of the event.
Proceeds from the registrations and sponsors were split between the two charities. Carol Day, co-director of LACO, expressed gratitude for the donations, and said her organization’s portion of the donation, $1,076, will “provide 6,729 pounds of meat from Good Shepherd Food Bank or two months of hamburger from Food City for the 250 to 300 families served each month by the organization.”
The Tedford Shelter said its portion will provide heating assistance for many families in the Lisbon area. The shelter expressed appreciation for the efforts of the LUMC leadership team, which organized the event.
Kadrian Rugullies was the overall winner of the race with a time of 20:03. Jenn Morris, first female finisher, completed the course in 25:02. A full list of results and pictures can be found on the church’s website at www.LisbonUMChurch.org. Next year’s run/walk will be Saturday, Sept. 14.
