LISBON FALLS — The winners of the Moxie Recipe Contest from this year’s Moxie Festival have been announced.
The contest took place at Chummy’s Mid-Town Diner on July 14.
The first place for Main Dish went to Brian Lovering’s Holly’s Heavenly Tacos.
First place for Dessert (high 33 of 45 points) was Barbara Warren’s Moxie Parfait.
First in the Appetizer/Sauce category was Tim Emery’s barbecue sauce.
All received gift baskets filled with goodies.
The Moxie Recipe Contest has been a staple of the Moxie Festival for several years. Judges this year were state Sen. Garrett Mason, R-Lewiston; Karen Schneider and Nathan Jones.
Recipes are judged on three criteria:
1) The Moxie taste must be well-pronounced;
2) The other flavors in the dish must accent the Moxie taste;
3) Could the dish possibly make someone a Moxie Maniac?
This year’s entries featured scones, ribs, barbecue sauce, tacos, and a Moxie Parfait dessert, all with the magic ingredient of the historic Moxie carbonated beverage. There were four categories for entries Appetizers, Salads, Desserts and Sauces.
Recipe makers and tourists from Nevada, Florida and Washington sat with locals as the judges tasted each food item and announced this year’s winners.
