LISBON — Cub Scout Pack 109 participated in L.L. Bean’s Scout-O-Rama on May 12, braving unseasonably cold temperatures and the possibility of rain.
This year’s event was extended this year to allow Scout camping and better accessibility, and members of the pack showed up with tents, ate meals outside, participated in a campfire ceremony, marched in a parade and had a lot of fun.
It all started on Friday night, May 11, when a small portion of the pack showed up to camp and brave the elements. They set up tents, ate dinner, and had a small campfire that included s’mores. While camping, the group befriended multiple Boy and Girl Scout troops that also chose to camp out.
But the real excitement started on Saturday morning around 9 a.m. The bagpipes played and Scouts marched after being joined by several other members of the pack who participated in Saturday’s events but did not camp.
The Scout total from Lisbon went up to about 13, including three former members who are now in Boy Scout Troop 109. The pack and troop members marched together to represent a unified Lisbon.
It marked the first time the pack has ever marched in this parade and represented Lisbon as a unit. Afterwards, they climbed rock walls, participated in timed tent set-ups, canoe portage races, Lego car races, and rain-gutter regattas.
Most of the pack ate dinner together at Recompense Campground at Wolf Neck Farm, wrapping hamburger, potatoes and carrots in aluminum foil and tossing it into a fire. The event was a success and the town was well represented by the pack and troop.
