LISBON — Cub Scout Pack 109 conducted a full weekend of cleanup in their hometown recently as part of their effort to earn their World Conservation Awards. The effort started on Friday, April 27, at Beaver Park.
Despite the rain, members of the Wolf Den cleared the Jessup trail, which they have adopted.
Afterwards, they continued hiking about the park, picking up debris, removing fallen limbs that could be tripped over and reporting downed trees that were acting as obstacles to hikers.
The boys were part of an initial effort to recover the park from its normal winter wear and tear, along with the damage done by that nasty storm we had in October.
The den cleared three or four trails for hikers to pass and confirmed the park’s driving loop was clear of debris. They intend to return to the park and clear another trail or two soon. Participating Wolves included Den Leader Gene Baird and Scouts Russell McGrath, Lucian Capano, Jake Baird, Rex Turnell, Griffin Lathrop, Camden Therrien, Gabe Hebert and Robert Lawler.
Almost the entire den has completed requirements for the World Conservation Award. The rest of the pack, aided by members of the community, worked for two to three on the following Saturday morning to clear the sidewalks and streets of downtown Lisbon.
The boys swept sidewalks, raked the greenery next to parking lots, picked up garbage, and removed fallen greenery from the area. Together, the team of workers gave downtown Lisbon the spring facelift that it badly needed.
