LISBON FALLS — Lisbon Cub Scouts struck gold during their annual Blue and Gold Banquet March 24, at Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, receiving awards they have worked for since last summer.
They all enjoyed hiking, camping, running, building and maturing during the year.
The Tiger den members, generally the youngest den of a pack, received their belt loops towards their actual “Tiger” ranks.
The Wolf den members, the pack’s biggest den, saw all cross the line, earning “Wolf.” Likewise, the mighty Bear den members earned their rank of “Bear.”
The Webelos, which stands for We-Be-Loyal-Scouts, all earned their “Webelos” rank. Lastly, the Arrow of Light den members are set to transition to Boy Scout Troop 109 April 2 at Holy Trinity Church, 67 Frost Hill Ave.
What’s left for these scouts to do? The Arrow Of Light den will become the Phoenix patrol for Boy Scout Troop 109 and will no longer be Cub Scouts.
The remaining dens, however, will be working on fiscal resource management skills during their
upcoming scrap-booking event, April 7, and during their car wash/bottle drive Saturday, May 19. They will march in the Memorial Day Parade, run by Lisbon’s American Legion, and will participate in the Scout-O-Rama, which is run by LLBean.
The Scout-O-Rama starts with a parade at 8:15 a.m. in Freeport; scouts walk proudly down one of Maine’s busiest and most successful business districts. The same scouts can rock climb, do an obstacle course, learn first aid, race wind boats, buy outdoor camping equipment, and just have fun. Many of the scouts in Pack 109 actually sleep over during the event and participate in starting a campfire, performing skits in a campfire program, and sleeping out in tents.
In June, the pack will conduct its camporee or “Father’s Day Camping Trip.” They will all tie knots, swim, hike, navigate, cook, camp, have fun and cross over to begin working on the next higher rank. They will have the opportunity to participate in a Polar Dip at this camporee. The Wolf den members will be working towards their World Conservation Awards by clearing trails at Beaver Park, including the “Jessup Trail,” which they’ve adopted for annual clean up.
The Wolves will also attempt to earn their emergency preparedness badges in the late spring. The pack will do this under the new cubmaster, as previous cubmaster Devin Dunam’s son has moved on to the Phoenix Patrol.
