Members of American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Post 181 of Litchfield recently participated in a project to support the national Yellow Ribbon Program, assisting deployed and returning veterans. Members teamed up with the Maine National Guard and Yellow Ribbon Project personnel to make pillowcases for deployed service member’s children, who received them for Christmas. The pillowcases display the faces of the children’s parents. Auxiliary member Lillian Frace and Irene Wise sewed the pillowcases; Legion members Greg and Deb Couture, working with members of the Maine National Guard headquartered in Augusta, printed and transferred the military members faces to the pillowcases. According to the Maine National guard web site, “The Army National Guard is the oldest military institution in the country, and many of the organizations within the National Guard carry on the lineage of historic units.
