BETHEL — Four years ago Hayley Tanguay, of Albany Township, decided that she wanted to start a meaningful and fun business venture that would serve the people of the community while also making a difference to the environment. That’s when Community Sports was born and Hayley has been growing her business by leaps and bounds ever since.
Located upstairs at Philbrook Place at 162 Main Street in Bethel, Community Sports carries a huge inventory of quality, gently used sports gear for children, teens and adults. Clothing and equipment that may have otherwise been thrown away is recycled and reused and put to good use by the next recreational sports enthusiast or by families whose children outgrow their clothing and equipment each year.
The store is chock-full of brand name, pre-owned, and sometimes never-been-used items that the shop receives from over 400 consignors. The store is open year round but sells sporting goods of the current season. Shoppers will currently find quality winter sports equipment and clothing that is in good to great condition, clean, and most of all affordable. The quality is superior to what you may find in the big chain departments stores. Community Sports carries both high-end and everyday clothing brands including Patagonia, North Face, Spyder, EMS, Burton and more. There is a large inventory of downhill skis and boots as well as a good selection of cross-country and telemark gear.
There are poles, goggles, snowshoes, ice skates, jackets, snow pants, sweaters, hats, backpacks and new socks, hats, mittens and gloves. And if you’re lucky you may even find some vintage equipment and clothing which are quite popular with shoppers. The shop also carries new swim suits and dance wear year round.
Community Sports is currently accepting consignments for the winter season. If you have clean, ready-to-wear, gently worn clothing or sports equipment in good condition, or vintage collectibles stop by or give Hayley a call. Consignors will receive at least 50 percent of the selling price of the item and Hayley will negotiate an even greater percentage to the consignor on higher-end, big-ticket items. Consignors are paid monthly and may receive a check or store credit. Consignments for the summer will be accepted starting in April so hold onto your bikes, paddleboards, water skis, kayaks and canoes until then.
Community Sports is located upstairs at Philbrook Place, 162 Main St, Bethel, across from The Sudbury Inn. The store is open 7 days a week. Winter hours are Sunday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.
