LISBON — Miranda Torrey, a fourth-grader at Lisbon Community School was named USA National Role Model Princess 2017 when she represented the state of Maine at the USA National Miss Scholarship Pageant in Boca Raton, Fla.
Miranda won the title USA National Miss Downeast Maine Princess 2017 in August 2016 at the Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant, and competed in the national pageant with more than 200 girls from around the country in July of this year.
The national pageant included competitoin in evening gown, interview and a runway fashion show. In addition to seven overall titles, there were also optional competitions, including Modeling Portfolio, Casual Wear and Role Model.
Miranda’s other awards include USA National Miss Community Involvement Winner 2017, USA National Miss Modeling Portfolio Runner Up 2017, a USA National Miss Finalist Award, a Gold Presidential Award for volunteering and a National Day of Service Award.
After returning home from competion, Miranda took her first trip to New York City, where she walked at New York Fashion Week for De Lauraine Designs by Toni Lau, and is one of the promotional models for De Lauraine Designs’ next book. She was also originally scheduled to walk for a second designer at the show, but it was postponed when Hurricane Irma interfered with travel plans.
Miranda has also partnered with Jessica Tardiff Photography to hold a one-day photo shoot on Nov. 4 at an anti-bullying event, with part of the proceeds donated to The Crown CARES anti-bullying education.
“USA National Miss combines all the beauty and excitement of pageantry with the glamour and energy of a runway fashion show — while recognizing the personal achievement, community involvement and academic excellence of young women all across the USA,” said USA National Miss Executive Director Jackie Watson in a news release. “Our program is designed to award young women for their accomplishments, and to mentor them to reach their goals and unleash their true potential, while encouraging them to be articulate young women with a strong sense of self worth.”
