May named Rumford Community Home Employee of the Year

RUMFORD – Patty May has been recognized as the 2017 Employee of the Year at Rumford Community Home.
May, who has worked at the long-term care and rehabilitation center since 1996, is a certified nursing assistant. She is highly regarded by both the management team and her co-workers for her dedication and commitment to her job and the residents she serves, they said.

“Patty May makes it her priority to get to know the residents,” said Denise Kidder, director of nursing. “She makes sure they are cared for and cared about. Patty will not accept anything less than exemplary care for those who live at Rumford Community Home.
“Patty holds others to that expectation and does so by leading by example,” Kidder said. “She has compassion for everyone around her, including residents as well as her co-workers. Patty goes about her job with a smile and a laugh, and rather than getting worked up about stressful situations she works through them. Her calm demeanor calms those around her.”
The job of a certified nursing assistant is a big one and involves every aspect of a resident’s personal care and comfort including, but not limited to, bathing, grooming, nail and skin care, dressing, assistance with eating and drinking, positioning for comfort, taking vital signs, tidying rooms and beds and all the while ensuring the safety of residents. CNAs are a nurse’s “right hand” and they must constantly be observant or aware of any changes in a patient’s health and report them to the nursing staff.
May’s coworkers had high praise for her as well. Some of their comments were:
“When Patty is scheduled you can be sure things will get done and be done well.”
“Patty is awesome. One of the best people I’ve ever worked with.”
“She is a very positive person and definitely a team player.”
“Patty is encouraging, helpful, honest and always upbeat.”
“She has a real relationship with residents. All she has to do is put her comforting hand on a resident’s shoulder and the resident smiles.”

May goes above and beyond each and every day, those who work with her said. Her care and compassion for her work and the residents in her care is sincere and deep and those around her know she is genuine and truly cares for their well-being.
Administrator Jeffrey LaCroix, Kidder, the management team and entire staff of Rumford Community Home said they congratulate and thank May for all that she does every day of the year.
