Kay receives Lions Club International Foundation award in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN — Lion Michael Kay of Skowhegan has been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship by Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of his commitment to vision screening, the Speakout Contest and many other Lion contributions throughout the communities of Skowhegan, Madison, Canaan and Anson.

SKOWHEGAN — New Dimensions Federal Credit Union recently announced it has expanded its mortgage/commercial loan department at the Skowhegan branch location, welcoming mortgage and commercial loan officer Stephanie Lachance into the fold.
Lachance began working in the Somerset branch in May 2018.

American Red Cross will install free smoke alarms in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN – The American Red Cross will install free smoke alarms and provide fire safety education to Skowhegan residents in their homes Saturday, July 21.

Elizabeth C. (Beaufort) Quinn

WATERVILLE — Elizabeth C. Quinn, 97, of Skowhegan, died peacefully on July 6, at Mt. St. Joseph’s hospital in Waterville.
She was born in Skowhegan Nov. 22, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Blanchette) Beauford, and was raised in her family’s home on North Avenue by her older sister, Mrs. Louis (Marie) LaFratta, following her parents’ passing.

Central, western Maine students awarded Franklin Savings scholarships

FARMINGTON — Franklin Savings Bank’s Community Development Foundation has awarded $36,000 college scholarships to 12 students from Androscoggin, Franklin, Somerset and Oxford counties.
The scholarships are $3,000 each. The bank awards the scholarships each year to students from 11 local schools.

Sparrows Nest Theater to feature ‘Little Women’ July 12 to 15

INDUSTRY — The Sparrow’s Nest Theater will present its summer production of “Little Women” for four days, beginning Thursday, July 12.
Directed by Anson resident Diane Leeman, the play is based on the Louisa May Alcott classic novel.
