BATH — ’Tis the season for holiday shows, and Midcoast Youth Theater is preparing to present “A Christmas Carol, The Musical” in early December. This is MYT’s first all-ages production in three years, featuring 55 local actors spanning more than a 60-year age range.
The familiar story follows the Christmas Eve adventure of Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Millett of Topsham), the cranky old miser who loathes all things Christmas. Visits from the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley (Jamie Buonaiuto of Brunswick) and the Ghosts of Christmas Past (Madelyn Sweet of Bowdoinham), Present (Ashlynn Tundel of Topsham), and Future (Michaela Davis of Brunswick), show Scrooge the spirit of Christmas that has always surrounded him and how things might turn out if he continues on his miserable path.
“The level of artistry in this cast amazes me at every turn,” said director Meg Davis, of Brunswick. “This is a rich, challenging music score, and I was fortunate to be able to cast it with so much talent. Each youth role has a very capable understudy ready to step in at a moment’s notice, which is crucial in current times! The whole cast has been working so hard, and it’s wonderful to watch them learning and growing together.”
Performances of “A Christmas Carol, The Musical” will be held at Morse High School Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 1 to 4.
