2022 Cruisin’ for a Cure fundraiser sets record

WATERVILLE – The New Dimensions Federal Credit Union eighth annual Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show raised a record high $20,241 this year for Maine Children’s Cancer Program, an affiliate of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
With the addition of the CO-OP Miracle Match of $10,000, the total is $30,241, which will make a huge difference in the lives of children, and their families, who desperately need the help.
The show was held June 4 at Lafleur Airport, with staff and volunteers arriving early to begin setting up for the credit-union’s biggest event of the year. They had sent the invitations, carefully planned, and were over the top that they had finally reached the day of the show. One by one, cars began showing up – with 160 registrations, the volunteers watched in amazement when the new section of the airport filled up in record time.
New Dimensions FCU hosts the Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show every year to raise money for the MCCP. This year, fundraising activities included a 50/50 raffle and a Super Raffle that included a Yeti Package. More money was raised by food sales, which meant many volunteers spent the day grilling hot dogs, sausage and onions, deep-frying fries, selling pizza by the slice, and making sure breakfast pizza was available. T-shirt sales also brought in money for the cause, and each car show participant paid a registration fee of $10 per vehicle. Those who came to see the car could pay a suggested $3 donation, and, organizers said, “As always, our community showed up generous as ever.”
Organizers thanked local businesses that sponsor the event each year, and attribute a large part of its success to the sponsors, who make it possible for all the proceeds to go to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Their sponsorships include gold, silver, bronze, and general and trophy sponsorships. Area businesses also donated signs, posters, pizza, super raffle prizes, and more.
