Growing Gardiner day-long celebration is June 18

GARDINER – A celebration of all Gardiner has to offer, “Growing Gardiner,” will take place with a variety of events on Saturday, June 18.
The celebration begins downtown at 8:30 a.m., and concludes with a community picnic on the Gardiner Common from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Downtown activities include a plant sale, kids’ activities, expert talks on nature and history, puppet show and craft, antique cars, live music, drumming, dance, plein air artists, gallery shows, and scavenger hunt. There are also rewards for supporting small businesses during the event — Gardiner Main Street will be giving away $500 in local shopping certificates. To enter, you just need a receipt for $50 or more from a single local merchant.
The picnic is free and open to all – those attending may bring their own food or buy hotdogs and hamburgers from the Gardiner Rotary Club. There will also be desserts and an ice cream sundae bar (by donation), hosted by local churches. Music will be by Hallowell Community Band. The picnic will also include family games and a story walk set up around the Common. Residents, visitors and everyone else is invited to attend to celebrate Gardiner.
