‘Birds of Maine’ discussion is May 10

HALLOWELL – Barbara Vickery, co-editor of “Birds of Maine,” will be the guest of Kennebec Land Trust and Hallowell Conservation Commission at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Cohen Community Center, 22 Town Farm Road.
Vickery’s late husband, Peter Vickery, compiled the information for the book, which is a detailed look at Maine’s 464 bird species. The book was completed in cooperation with a team of leading ornithologists, and is considered the first comprehensive overview of Maine’s birdlife in more than seven decades. It is also a thoroughly researched, accessible portrait of a region undergoing rapid changes, with southern birds pushing north, northern birds expanding south, and once-absent natives like Atlantic Puffins, brought back by innovative conservation techniques pioneered in Maine.
The book is illustrated with watercolors by Lars Jonsson and line drawings by Barry Van Dusen.
