AUGUSTA — Andrew Vachon, of Richmond, was the Sagadahoc County recipient of the Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarship this year.
Vachon is a nursing student at St. Joseph College. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to one student from each of Maine’s 16 counties.
Vachon was presented his scholarship on April 7, joined in the Senate Chamber of the Maine State House by his parents, Pamela and Aaron. They were welcomed by Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, and Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Windham, co-chair of the Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund.
“One of my favorite parts of serving in the Legislature is welcoming guests to the Senate Chamber, especially young people from our community,” Vitelli said. “I was honored to welcome Andrew and his parents to the chamber and to celebrate this achievement with them. Andrew’s choice to pursue nursing as his course of study is particularly admirable – if these past two years have taught us anything, it’s that we need more smart and caring young people to step up and serve in this critical workforce.”
