Historian Levin is Chamberlain Roundtable guest speaker April 14

BRUNSWICK – Author and historian Kevin Levin will be the guest speaker at the Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Morrell Room at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
The discussion is free and open to the public.
Levin will discuss Robert Gould Shaw’s time with the 2nd Massachusetts, which significantly led to his evolving understanding of the war. His eventual decision to take command of a Black regiment and the challenges he faced can only be fully understood after considering his earlier experiences in the 2nd Massachusetts.
Levin, based in Boston, has lectured widely and worked with students and teachers across the country on how to better understand the ongoing debate about Confederate monuments. His most recent book is “Searching for Black Confederates: the Civil War’s Most Persistent Myth.”
