AUGUSTA — Kennebec Savings Bank has received the Exceptional Community Bank Service Award from the Independent Community Bankers of America. ICBA’s National Community Bank Service Awards recognize the outstanding service and creative volunteer efforts of the nation’s community banks.
Kennebec Savings Bank’s efforts to assist its community, in particular fighting food insecurity throughout the pandemic, earned the bank the national recognition. The bank last year helped nonprofit organizations to distribute more than 2,300 boxes of food, 2,300 gallons of milk and 1,200 turkeys to families hard-hit by COVID-19 and donated more than $1.1 million to 300 nonprofits and charitable causes across the 35 communities it serves.
“When the pandemic first hit, like many organizations, we had to adjust operations to get our arms around the size and scale of its impact,” said Andrew Silsby, president and CEO. “However, thanks to our strong culture of teamwork and community involvement, it did not take KSB long to jump into action to help our friends and neighbors. We are honored by this recognition from ICBA and grateful for the opportunity to stand with our community during their hour of need.”
From helping to combat food insecurity to supporting theaters trying to keep their doors open, bank employees mobilized to develop several innovative programs to give back. Notable projects included a COVID-19 relief fund for local nonprofits and a social media awareness campaign to promote small business patronage.

More than 100 community banks have been recognized since ICBA launched the National Community Bank Service Awards program in 2002.
