Doctor, author Toms to speak at Rangeley library Sept. 15

RANGELEY – Author and former physician Bill Toms will be at the Rangeley Public Library 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, to discuss his newly published book, “Quiet Lives.”
Toms practiced family medicine with what is now Dartmouth-Hitchcock for 27 years. Upon retirement in 2005, he started to see patients at Rangeley Family Medicine, at first full-time, covering a maternity leave, and then part-time up until two years ago, when he “retired” again.
Toms has been writing short stories in verse for more than 50 years, the vast majority of which are about his family, the lake, the mountains and life in general. However, some of the stories have to do with medicine and, especially, his patients. He gathered some of these stories together in “Quiet Lives.”
Toms and his wife, Mary Angela, have a home in Rangeley as well as a home in Keene, N.H.
