Waterville Area Art Society scholarship winners named

WATERVILLE — Waterville Area Art Society has awarded two $500 scholarships to Winslow High School students Kaylee Nadeau and Paige Spears.
Both students are among the top 10 WHS seniors, and arrt instructor Suzanne Goulet said the pair are among the top 20 percent of art students she has taught.
“Kaylee Nadeau is an exceptional young woman who is committed to social, and environmental justice and dignity for all,” Goulet said. “Kaylee uses her artistic skills and endeavors to journey toward these ends. She is a committed and talented artist and excels in experimenting with materials and processes. She is comfortable with traditional and digital media.”
Nadeau will attend Maine College of Art to pursue a bachelor of fine arts degree, with a concentration in illustration.
Goulet said Spears’ visual gift “is that she is very brave and strong in her compositions.”
“Her compositions are complex and powerful – she experiments, explores and considers options. Paige’s strengths are her abilities to visualize a statement and her determination to see it produced into a piece that resonates with incredible visual power,” Goulet said.
Spears plans to attend the University of Maine, majoring in studio art.
