MEXICO — Oxford Federal Credit Union announced it has made $8,000 in donations to area nonprofits.
“We know that the pandemic has increased food insecurity and hardship in our communities,” said Marketing Director Lisa Marston. “Oxford FCU gives to food banks and pantries throughout the year, but we wanted to offer some additional help for the holidays.”
Checks for $500 were sent to seven food banks from Canton to West Paris. Additionally, a $500 Visa gift card was sent to the activities department at Rumford Community Home to buy gifts for the residents and checks in the amount of $1,000 were given to Daddy O’s Acts of Kindness Foundation, Pink Feather Foundation and Dixfield Discount Fuel’s annual toy drive.
Marston said, “The contributions that these organizations make in our communities are much-needed and appreciated and we wanted to lend them some support.”
The employees of Oxford FCU also spread some cheer when $100 Visa gift cards were delivered to seven schools in the River Valley and eight elementary schools in Oxford Hills. Staff at both locations donate on a regular basis to a fund, “Helping Hands,” which was created specifically to give employees a way of their own to give back to the community.
“These gift cards, and some winter outerwear as well, were purchased with Helping Hands funds so schools could help students in need through the holidays,” said Rosemarie Richard, branch manager at Oxford FCU’s Mexico branch andchair of the Helping Hands committee.
“People helping people is the credit union way and Oxford Federal strives to be a reflection of that motto in everything we do – for our members and the communities we serve,” said Marston.
