BELGRADE — Getting a new small business off the ground is always a challenge but getting lift off in the middle of a pandemic and making it through your first summer is no small accomplishment.
That’s why celebrating Independent Bookstore Day on Aug. 29 feels even more fitting for Oliver & Friends Bookshop and Reading Room in Belgrade Lakes, said owner Renee Cunningham.
“For obvious safety reasons, we couldn’t have a big, grand opening celebration so it’s nice to be able to celebrate the end of our first season on Independent Bookstore Day,” Cunningham said.
While the official date is Aug., 29, Cunningham said the store plans to make it a weekend long event, with special merchandise, contests and an end-of-summer sale.
Oliver & Friends Bookshop and Reading Room is at 87 Main St., and is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
