Firefighters in Maine, NJ pay tribute to 9/11 first responder

HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Hackensack Fire Department and the Professional Fire Fighters of Maine recently announced the line of duty death of Firefighter Richard Kubler. Kubler died July 25.
Kubler served in the Hackensack Fire Department from Jan. 5, 1998, until Jan. 1 of this year. He and his wife had moved to Wiscassett, Maine, for retirement. “I needed to get him where he was happy and that’s here in Maine,” Susan Kubler told CBS 13 in November.
Kubler was diagnosed with cancer in October, which was linked to his recovery work after the attacks in NYC on 9/11. The Hackensack Fire Department said it is grateful to the Professional Firefighters of Maine, and specifically, the Bath Professional Firefighters, for their ongoing support of Kubler and his family over the last few months.
A celebration of Kubler’s life included a procession from Daigle Funeral Home to First Congregation Church 28 High St. in Wiscassett, Maine, on Aug. 1. A funeral Mass including his family, friends and area firefighters.
