BRUNSWICK — The Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick announced that its Concerts for a Cause series has raised $1,457.21 for each of its 2019-20 charities — Tedford Housing and the Oasis Free Clinics.
UUCB Concerts for a Cause is a series of performances hosted by the UU Church of Brunswick as a part of the church’s commitment to the arts and to supporting the important work of local non-profits. The concerts are meant to encourage the community to come together in celebration of music and giving back.
During the 2019-20 fiscal year, there were eight concerts ranging from well-known singer-songwriters to jazz singers, to a bluegrass band and a country/pop band, to a blues/rock-playing cello player. The first four concerts were a great success, but the last four concerts had to be canceled because of COVID-19.
The Concerts for a Cause committee is disappointed that they were not able to raise more for their selected charities, buit said they know that every contribution given to these charities is needed and gratefully appreciated.
Two-thirds of proceeds from the 2019-20 concert series were donated to:
* Tedford Housing which works the community to find lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness. It provides two emergency homeless shelters, supportive housing for previously homeless people, homeless prevention services and one-time emergency fuel assistance for low-income people. * Oasis Free Clinics, which offers free medical and dental services and prescription drug assistance to 18-64-year-olds in the mid coast area who have no health insurance and cannot afford to pay for care.
The organizations were selected from the list of Charities with Soul, which are voted on by the congregation at the beginning of each fiscal year. The charities’ individual websites outline how to donate as well as volunteer opportunities.
